Book Week 2012

2012





Lunch Time Activities in the Library.
Celebrating READING and BOOKS with the Letters ABCDE.


Monday: A for Authors.

Each class  heard stories / poems by a chosen author and learnt lots about this person.
Tuesday: B for Books.

Learning about the different parts of a books.

Also each class made a list of their favourite picture books. We have a display of these 
The Best Picture Books To Read Before You Leave Mangonui School”




Wednesday: C for Characters.

This was the day for dressing up as any book character.


Tuatara

Pirates, ballerinas, Zac Power, Ghosts. The list was endless. Everyone presented a short talk / speech about their character to their class. The day ended with a parade and a presentation of some of the best speeches from throughout the whole school.



Thursday: D for Drawings.

This is the day we concentrated on illustrators and the drawings in books.

Each class also produced a small display that celebrated reading and books in some way for the  library.




 D was also for DUVET Day. A chance for all those who wanted to come to school in their pyjamas.







Friday: Exchange Day.


At lunch time we had a Book Swap, and during the afternoon all the teachers  swapped around and took a shared reading lesson with a different class.



Lots of learning and fun to further promote READING.





Bring Wonder

Bring Wonder
Library Week began with Bring Wonder (Derek Gordon) sharing his stories. In the afternoon workshop sessions, students learnt some of the skills that go with telling stories well. Throughout the week these skills were practised, and shared at assembly on Friday.
